The government has appointed Md Aminul Islam as the new chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, replacing Tajul Islam.
The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification today regarding the appointment.
According to the notification, signed by Solicitor Md Manjurul Hossain, lawyer Md Aminul Islam has been appointed as chief prosecutor of the tribunal to conduct cases until further order.
Earlier, Tajul Islam told The Daily Star that the government unofficially informed him about the move. He refused to make further comments until a gazette notification was issued.
Supreme Court lawyer Tajul Islam was appointed the chief prosecutor of the tribunal on September 7, 2024. Earlier, he was the defence lawyer for Jamaat leaders, who were accused of crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
